Children and Family Activities for Sunday 21st Feb Jesus is Tempted

This week we’re looking at the story that comes at the beginning of Lent: Jesus is tempted in the wilderness.

Song: Cast your Cares https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbD62FUJVik&list=PLvED08kYJV-9cocZFGCjPThohvoFbvF7X&index=4&ab_channel=HTBChurch

As Jesus started his work on earth, he went out to the desert (or wilderness) and God’s enemy the devil tempted him. Jesus didn’t give in and God sent angels to give him strength.

Here is the story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc-x4qKY6Wc&ab_channel=SaddlebackKids

So this week we’re think about how we can overcome temptation. When we want to do something that we know is wrong- how do we stop? Jesus used God’s words from the bible to keep himself on the right path. He said We don’t live but bread alone but by God’s words.

SO our craft is some of God’s promises to us – on shapes that look like bread! Cut out the promises and stick them on paper or card in the shape of slices of bread. You can join them together to make a book.

Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the Lord with all your heart.

Isaiah 43:5

Do not be afraid for I am with you.

Matthew 28:20

I am with you always.

1 John 5:3

This is love for God: to obey his commands

Luke 6:31

Do to others as you would have them do to you.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

Philippians 4:13

I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path

Jeremiah 33:3

Call to me and I will

answer you

Ephesians 4:32

Be kind to one another, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.

There is a word search (online here: https://wordmint.com/public_puzzles/1221351) and in your envelopes.

Prayer:

Let’s ask God to keep us safe and help us to be strong when we’re tempted to do something we know is wrong.

Dear God,

Keep us close to you this week.

Keep us close to your promises

so we remember that we’re not on our own.

Keep us close to other people so we can love them too.

Fill us with your Spirit so we can do this.

Amen

And a final song- reminding us that God is faith to us.
