GLU Nov 15th- The Wise and Foolish Bridesmaids

Song: God loves me!

Bet you can’t sing this without bouncing round the room!

We’re looking this week at a story Jesus told about being ready. You can watch it here:

The Parable of the Ten Young Women

25 “At that time the Kingdom of heaven will be like this. Once there were ten young women who took their oil lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and the other five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any extra oil with them, while the wise ones took containers full of oil for their lamps. The bridegroom was late in coming, so they began to nod and fall asleep.

“It was already midnight when the cry rang out, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come and meet him!’ The ten young women woke up and trimmed their lamps. Then the foolish ones said to the wise ones, ‘Let us have some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’ ‘No, indeed,’ the wise ones answered, ‘there is not enough for you and for us. Go to the store and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 So the foolish ones went off to buy some oil; and while they were gone, the bridegroom arrived. The five who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was closed.

11 “Later the others arrived. ‘Sir, sir! Let us in!’ they cried out. 12 ‘Certainly not! I don't know you,’ the bridegroom answered.”

13 And Jesus concluded, “Watch out, then, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Jesus tells us he will come back at the end of all time but we don’t know when that will be. So he tells us to “Be Ready!”

So it’s about reminding us to follow Jesus now- and not things put off.

We might think- I’ll do that when I’m older

I’ll do that once COVID is over!

I don’t feel like following Jesus now

Jesus asks us to follow him now!

To help us remember the story here are some activities:

There is a template to make you own lamps from a paper plate.

Prayer: You might want to light as candle and watch it as you prayer…

Dear God

Thank you that you’re always there for us- never late or too busy.

Please us be ready to follow Jesus without any excuses!

So if you follow down the page here we should share the service as if we were all together in our building! All the music and videos are links- so when we get to that part, click and listen to the readings and songs! We're looking at the story of Ruth - a little book tucked in after Judges and before Kings in the Old Testament. Many people celebrate Mothering Sunday today but I'd like to look at people who weren't related that closely, came from different countries and peoples but still took care of each other and found that God was faithful to them. Let's gather together this Sunday at 10.30 am worship! Welcome to our Service The Story of Ruth: Faithfulness Rises From Tragedy. We meet in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit   Amen Song: Mighty to Save click on:
